Care & Materials

Care & Materials

Your Theta Vendetta pieces are made to be worn boldly. With a little routine care, they'll stay as striking as the day you first wore them. This guide covers the materials we use most and the best ways to look after them.

Moissanite — Daily Cleaning

Moissanite is one of the hardest gemstones available (9.25 on the Mohs scale), making it highly resistant to scratching. However, everyday exposure to lotions, oils, and residue can reduce its brilliance over time.

Routine clean (weekly or as needed)

  1. Fill a small bowl with warm (not hot) water and a drop of mild, fragrance-free dish soap.
  2. Place your piece in the water and let it soak for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Gently scrub around the stone and setting with a soft-bristled toothbrush.
  4. Rinse thoroughly under clean, lukewarm running water.
  5. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth and allow to air-dry fully before storing.

What to avoid

  • Harsh chemicals, bleach, or chlorine (including swimming pools and hot tubs)
  • Ultrasonic or steam cleaners unless confirmed safe for the specific setting by a jeweller
  • Abrasive cloths or paper towels

Sterling Silver — Tarnish Prevention & Polishing

Our sterling silver pieces are made from 925 silver (92.5% pure silver, 7.5% alloy). Tarnishing is a natural reaction when silver is exposed to air and moisture — it doesn't mean the piece is damaged.

Prevention tips

  • Wear it often. The natural oils in your skin help slow tarnish on regularly worn pieces.
  • Apply products first. Put on perfume, lotion, and hairspray before putting on your jewellery.
  • Remove before water. Take off silver pieces before showering, swimming, or washing dishes.
  • Store properly. Keep silver in a sealed pouch or airtight container when not worn (see Storage section below).

Polishing tarnished silver

  1. Use a dedicated silver polishing cloth or a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
  2. Rub gently in straight back-and-forth strokes — avoid circular motions, which can create fine scratches.
  3. For heavier tarnish, a small amount of non-gel, non-whitening toothpaste applied with a soft cloth can help, but use sparingly and rinse thoroughly.
  4. Dry completely before storing.

What to avoid

  • Rubber bands and rubber-lined containers (rubber accelerates tarnish)
  • Direct sunlight for extended periods
  • Chlorine, bleach, or strong household cleaners

Safe Storage

How you store your jewellery matters as much as how you clean it.

  • Separate pieces. Store each item individually or in separate compartments to prevent scratching.
  • Use anti-tarnish pouches. Small anti-tarnish strips or pouches in a jewellery box help absorb moisture and slow oxidation on silver.
  • Avoid humidity. Keep jewellery away from bathrooms and humid environments. A cool, dry drawer or box is ideal.
  • Keep chains flat or loosely coiled. Don't hang delicate chains for long periods — store them flat to reduce stress on links.

Product-Specific Notes

Some pieces in our collection have specific finishes or construction details that call for extra care:

  • Franco chains (925 silver): The woven link structure can trap residue. Use a soft brush during cleaning to reach between links, and dry thoroughly to prevent moisture build-up.
  • Pieces with pavé or prong-set stones: Check settings periodically to ensure stones are secure. Avoid submerging in water for extended periods. If a stone appears loose, stop wearing the piece and contact us.
  • Gold-plated pieces (if applicable): Plating can wear over time with heavy use. Avoid abrasive cleaning. Gentle soap and water is best; skip polishing cloths on plated surfaces.

Troubleshooting

Issue Likely cause What to do
Silver looks dull or yellow Tarnish from air / moisture exposure Polish with a silver cloth; store in an airtight pouch going forward
Moissanite looks cloudy Oil, lotion, or soap residue on the stone Soak and brush with mild soap and warm water; rinse thoroughly
Chain is tangled or kinked Storage or wear tension Lay flat on a surface; use a pin to gently work out knots; do not pull forcefully
Stone appears loose Setting wear or impact Stop wearing immediately; contact us for guidance
Piece causing skin reaction Metal sensitivity or alloy contact Discontinue use; contact us — we'll help find a solution
Plating wearing off Normal wear over time Avoid abrasive cleaning; contact us for re-plating options if available
